There are so many great options in Durango but this place we had to come back twice because we loved it! El Moro hits all the wants and needs of creating a great dinning experience! amazing food great atmosphere cocktails on point friendly staff great customer service!
Dinner: we had the assorted meats and cheese, and the beet and apple salad, paired with a Cabernet Sauvignon
Brunch: I had the breakfast burger and it was amazing! Not too heavy, just right! The harissa mayo really made it! -

Since posting my last review giving them 5 stars I have had consistent troubling getting food cooked to my liking. I've had a couple bad dinners and can't seem to get decent eggs for brunch. I ask for over medium and get eggs that are almost raw. When I ask the waiter has several times told me that the 'cook is busy'. There's a remedy for that.
I want to like El Moro. The wine and drinks are great and they have some awesome snacks but I've had consistent difficulty getting good food. -

Really nice selection of small plates, larger plates, sandwiches, cocktails and beers. Limited and somewhat eclectic selection of wines.
We loved the lollipops, a spicy take on chicken wings using drumsticks and a wonderful sweet/spicy sauce, plus a green curry dipping sauce. The Korean Fried Cauliflower was also great.
The bar offers an enormous collection of spirits, and some talented mixology. -

Bottom line: Kick-butt EXCELLENT!!! Super historical bar that delivers outstanding food, delicious libations and attentive service on every level you can imagine. Please, order their in-house homemade sausage! Definitely something to remember! And, don't leave without asking "Who shot the Sheriff and where's his daily shot of whiskey?" I'll leave you with the mystery to solve on your own, but the legendary tale only adds to the totally pleasurable experience of eating & drinking at Durango's best tavern, El Moro!!!

Okay, so I will start by acknowledging how hard it can be to find great restaurants while traveling through the southwest. That said, this was absolutely our favorite restaurant we've been to while traveling through Utah and southwestern Colorado. In fact, it might be one of my favorite restaurants ever--and that's coming from Oregon where food and beverage are in a class of their own.
First off, the setting is so cool. They've done a great job preserving the history of this place (read about the Strangest Shooting at El Moro) while also making it a warm, inviting modern atmosphere. Second, their service is great. Our server was so friendly and very helpful in giving honest recommendations in what to order.
We ended up getting several appetizers and making a meal out of it: the corn chowder, the smoking hot toast, the chicken lollipops and the Thai mussels. Everything was outstanding, would definitely order again. We also got a couple cocktails which were equally as great.
If you're not catching my enthusiasm for this place yet, I'll spell it out for you: you need to go here. If you do anything in Durango, do this. We will be back!
